How To Do At-Home Insemination with Donor Sperm

In partnership with California Cryobank

This step-by-step guide will help you through at-home insemination using the Mosie Baby Kit and frozen sperm from a California Cryobank® donor. Why choose California Cryobank? They’re the #1 sperm bank in America, making the path to your family planning a little easier.

  1. Explore California Cryobank’s extensive and diverse portfolio including hundreds of rigorously screened donors (from donation centers across the nation) with a variety of physical characteristics, ethnicities, religions, interests, and talents.
  2. Once you have picked out your donor and placed your order, you'll receive your cryotank with the sperm vial(s) and some paperwork, including detailed thawing and insemination instructions and a return label for the tank.
  3. Be sure to use gloves (gardening or dishwashing ones will do) to handle the cryotank and cut the zip tie. Carefully remove the vial and check the donor ID against your paperwork.
  4. Thaw the vial by letting it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Use this time to prepare your insemination area — make sure it’s comfortable with blankets and pillows for after the procedure.
  5. Once thawed, get your Mosie syringe ready. Open your Mosie Baby Kit, which includes a syringe and a collection cup. If you prefer, you can skip disposable gloves for this step, but ensure your hands are clean. Review the Mosie Baby instructions and get familiar with the syringe. Be sure to push the plunger to the top when you’re ready.
  6. Next, open the vial and use the collection cup to transfer the sperm into the syringe. Pull the syringe back to draw up the sperm slowly to avoid air bubbles. If you get an air bubble, just flick the syringe to get it out.
  7. Once your syringe is ready, follow the insemination instructions provided with the Mosie Kit. It’s crucial to be in a comfortable, private space for the insemination.
