Mosie Mama Finally Finds “Mr. Right”...Her Son

Around the time of my 39th birthday, I began talking with close friends about my diminished hopes of finding “Mr. Right/the one” with whom I could build a family. Tinder and Match were proving to be far from fruitful in my search for a decent date, let alone a compatible lifelong partner. The checklist of dating, committing, marrying, and conceiving seemed impossible given my age. It was time to think of how I could achieve my dream of motherhood in less conventional ways.

One friend that I confided in told me about friends of hers who had created a patent-pending product for at-home artificial insemination. Disbelief followed by an unprecedented hope. I remember that conversation clear as day and filed it away under the category of “yes, you can!”

Fast forward a few years to age 41, when still without a partner and in the final semester of graduate school, the search for a sperm donor officially began. I wasn’t too keen on sperm banks for whatever reason. I knew I wanted to know the man who would be my child’s father. I shared my desire to be a mother and pursue single motherhood quite openly with friends, my mother, and co-workers. By April of 2019, at the age of 42, I was feeling deflated. A few potential leads hadn’t worked out. I was taking prenatals, eating more cleanly than usual, and oh-so ready to purchase Mosie, but was still without a sperm donor.

On a June evening, I shared my frustration with a dear friend I hadn’t seen in a while. (Here’s where the universe makes its big move.) She was hearing my story for the first time. Her eyes lit up. I anticipated her saying what most folks did, “Oh, that’s wonderful. I hope you find your guy. You’ll be a great mother.” I was wrong. “I think I might know someone,” she said. “He’s a friend of a friend; he helped her have a child a few years ago.” I excitedly asked her to reach out to her friend and see if he might be willing to meet me. I had NOTHING to lose. And, as they say, the rest is history.

But, what they don’t say is he would turn out to be one of the most selfless people I’ve ever known and that we would become friends. Starting in August 2019–as soon as I got the green light from my endocrinologist because of my hyperthyroidism—we began the process of trying to conceive. It wasn’t as quick as I had hoped. Luckily, my sperm donor was in it for the long haul and was a source of calm and encouragement. I bought “It Starts With the Egg” by Rebecca Fett and followed her protocol for diminished egg reserve given my age. I watched the videos of Maureen explaining cervical mucus and ovulation, along with other YouTube videos, and became VERY familiar with my cycle. I listened to podcasts and joined different Facebook groups. Maureen and Marc and the Mosie crew were incredibly supportive and helpful. By November I was thinking that IUI was my next step. I placed one more order of kits the second week of December. Six cycles and four months later, I finally got my BFP! I’m due in September with a beautiful baby boy. My gratitude for Mosie Baby is infinite. I’m so ready to realize my dream of motherhood and spend the rest of my days with my son who, in hindsight, is truly “the one”.

M, This story is special to us, because the person that turned you on to Mosie was a huge supporter of ours early on. And now your little guy is here (and we hear he’s perfect!). Warmest congratulations on your amazing journey. As a Single Mother by Choice (SMBC), you’re a trailblazer, and we’re thrilled to have been able to help you meet your little guy. Hopefully we’ll get to meet him as well one day when the world is boring (in a good way) again! More importantly, is our thanks to you for sharing your story with us because you are absolutely NOT alone. We know like-minded others will find inspiration and hope in your words. XO - Marc + Mo
