Recently Seen An Ad That Isn’t Relevant To You? Here’s Why.

  • 2 min read

Hi everyone, we wanted to be proactive in letting you know that if you’re an iPhone/iPad/AppleTV user and have recently updated to iOS14 - you may be experiencing unusual ad patterns in Facebook and other social media platforms.

    This may include:

    • Seeing ads you do not wish to see.
    • Seeing ads repeat more frequently than in the past.
    • Seeing ads that are no longer relevant to you.
      • You may have already purchased the product or service.
      • You no longer need the product or service.

As a brand that’s always put our community’s needs first and foremost, this is a concern for us. The last thing we want to do is show ads to folks that aren’t open to seeing them. We can’t stand overreaching, annoying ads that don’t apply to us either 😠! And we realize how emotional the TTC process can be, which is why we’re putting this statement out.

Why is this happening? There’s been a lot of back and forth between Facebook specifically and Apple. According to Apple, it’s about protecting privacy and giving you options. You can find Apple’s explanation here. The way we understand it to work - and we are by no means experts - is that it will be much like websites that show ads asking you to “accept cookies” (or not) in an effort to show ads relevant to your browsing history.

Now, when you download an app that shows ads, you can opt in or out of letting that app track your browsing history, which in theory results in more relevant ads to you. If you opt out of this option, your ad experience will be different than it has been in the past. If you opt in it will remain unchanged.

The "hide ad" feature on Facebook should still remain - and if you're unfamiliar with this, here's what you do.
Click on the top right hand corner of the ad where you see three dots, and hit "Hide ad". That'll tell Facebook you're not into that company or product.

As we learn more, we will take every measure possible to be as considerate as possible when it comes to who sees our ads. At the same time, we hope that bringing this to your attention will help you understand this change in our digital world!

    Thank you! ❤️
